I love a good coat, come winter they can hide a multitude of sins ..... especially a good wool coat. Which, for the purpose of this post we will just discuss and we will leave the warm practical parka, versatile leather jacket and mum raincoat for another day .... I promise.
My favourite coat colours are you guessed it grey, navy and classic camel.
I love the Isabel Marant grey tweed coats which she seems to recreate each year and of course she is the best at them. Don't despair if Izzy isn't in your budget because as tweed is a huge trend this season there are many great ones on the high street, including this one with burgundy tie cuffs from River Island and Mango always does a great Isabel Marant (ish) coat, as do &Other Stories .

Simply a coat that never dates, perfect layered over navy knits, bretons with jeans and ankle boots or with cropped jeans and heels. That Acne Studio one is just truly fabulous!

On the subject of navy coats, I find them far more flattering than black coats and they often look far more expensive than black coats, especially if you are looking on the high street. The type of navy coats I favour have large lapels, a slightly boxy oversized shape, knee length or just below and has a tie belt, which is always helpful if you want a more fitted look. Again, my advice would be to buy the best you can afford and it will repay you back ..... I did that 7 years ago and mine is still going strong. In fact, the one from Jigsaw is very similar to my faithful Nicole Farhi navy coat.

Earlier we discussed my love of the grey tweed coat, but you cannot beat just a plain grey coat. Grey is flattering to most skin tones, it looks expensive and fresh .... oh and I nearly forgot, grey goes with everything!

Never dates and always looks expensive, classy and sophisticated. If you got the money, invest in a classic Marmara the Ferrari of camel coats, for a cheaper option the Marmara Weekend one is beautiful and slightly a more modern shape ....you find that one available here and here.

As I have mentioned before buy the best you can afford and it will repay you back.
